Overview
The FD AI Portal is a data exploration and analytics platform that lets you discover applications, organize them into portals and workspaces, and interact with datasets, and internal tools or applications — all from a single unified interface.
Key concepts:
Applications: Individual applications you can open and interact with. There are three types:
data apps (tables)
Internal standalone application (Only available for
Workspaces: Tabbed layouts where you arrange and use multiple applications side by side.
Portals: Collections of workspaces. Use portals to organize different projects or workflows.
Getting Started
1. Log in using your credentials (Auth0-based authentication).
2. You land on the Home page, where you can browse and search all available apps.
3. Open an app to add it to your Workspace.
4. Organize your workspaces into Portals for different projects or workflows.
5. Save your portal/workspaces to preserve your layouts and searches across sessions.
Opening Applications
There are two ways to open an application: the Home page and the Sidebar App Catalog. Both add the app as a tab in your current workspace, but they serve different purposes.
| Home Page | Sidebar App Catalog |
Best for | Exploring and discovering apps you're not yet familiar with | Quickly opening an app you already know |
Search | Dedicated search bar with real-time filtering by name, description, and tags | No search (use Global Search Ctrl+K for that) |
App details | Full descriptions, cover images, dataset breakdowns, tags, and badges | App name only |
Organization | Cards in a grid, filterable by category | Hierarchical tree grouped by app groups |
Context menu | Open app button on each dataset card | Right-click menu with multiple open options |
Option 1: Home Page - Browse & Discover
The Home page is the best place to explore applications and understand what each one does before opening it.
App Grid
- All available apps are displayed as cards in a responsive grid.
- Each card shows the app name, description, icon, dataset count, and a tag badge.
- Click a card to select it and open its detail panel on the right.
Filtering & Searching
- Category filters — Use the filter buttons at the top ("All" plus category-specific buttons) to narrow the grid by app category.
- Dedicated search bar — Type to find apps by name, description, or tags. Search is real-time with debounced input. This is the most powerful way to discover apps, as it searches across all app metadata including long descriptions.
App Detail Panel (Right Side)
When you click an app card, a detail panel slides open on the right. This panel provides detailed information to help you understand what each app is about. This will evolve as we add more descriptions for each application:
- App header — Shows the app icon and total dataset count.
- Dataset search — Search within the selected app's datasets.
- Category accordions — Datasets are grouped by category. Expand a category to see its datasets.
- Dataset cards — Each dataset displays:
- Cover image (or placeholder)
- Name and detailed description — Helps you understand what data or functionality the app provides before opening it.
- Status badges and tags (first 3 shown; hover to see all)
- "Open app" button — Click to add the dataset to your current workspace.
Option 2: Sidebar App Catalog - Quick Access
The left sidebar's App Catalog is the fastest way to open an app when you already know what you're looking for.
App Tree
Below the main navigation items (Home, Search, My Portals), the sidebar shows the Apps section:
- App groups — Apps are organized into collapsible groups with custom icons.
- Expandable tree — Click a group to reveal its apps and sub-groups, with indented nesting for organization.
- App items show:
- App name with icon.
Three dots menu
Click the three dots on any app in the sidebar to access:
Open in a new workspace: Adds the app to a new workspace
Open in a new workspace: Adds the app to a new workspace tab in your current Portal
Open in playground: Opens the app in the Playground portal
Open as standalone: Opens app outside the portal - does not work for data apps
Open documentation Links to external documentation for the app (intercom)
Collapse / Expand
- Click the toggle button to collapse the sidebar for more screen space.
- The sidebar auto-expands when you hover over app groups while collapsed.
Workspace
The Workspace page is where you interact with your apps. It uses a flexible tab-based layout that supports split views and drag-and-drop.
Layout
- Apps open as tabs within a tabset.
- You can have multiple tabsets arranged side by side (split view).
- Drag and drop tabs between tabsets to reorganize your layout.
- Toggle full-screen mode to maximize your viewing area.
App Types
Data Apps
Data apps display rich, interactive tables powered by AG Grid:
- Data table with column resizing and auto-sizing.
- Number formatting — Values are formatted automatically (absolute numbers, percentages, basis points, custom formats).
- Conditional cell styling — Cells may be color-coded based on values.
- Excel export — Export the current grid data to an Excel file (.xlsx).
- Lazy loading — Large datasets load incrementally for performance.
- Charts — Visual chart representations of grid data.
- Control sidebar (toggleable) — A metadata panel on the side with:
- Dynamic form fields (checkboxes, dropdowns, tree selects, number inputs, etc.).
- Auto-apply or manual apply modes for parameter changes.
- Refresh button to reload grid data.
- Help button linking to documentation.
Other applications:
- Embedded sub-applications from a module registry.
- Can be opened within the workspace or as a standalone page.
- Support sub-routes and search parameter propagation.
- Supports reload.
Tab Operations
Double Click on the tab title to rename it.
Click the menu icon on any tab to access these options:
Save Application: Persist the current state of this tab
Reload: Refresh the app content
Share: Generate a shareable link for this specific tab
Save a Copy: Duplicate the tab with its current state
Clear: Reset all parameters to defaults (Data apps only)
Tab Indicators
- Loading spinner — Shown while an app is loading.
- Save status icon — A checkmark indicates saved state; absence indicates unsaved changes.
- Tab name tooltip — Hover over a custom-named tab to see the full app path.

- Split your workspace by dragging tabs into new tabsets for side-by-side comparison.
- Share workspace links with colleagues to collaborate on the same view.
- Export to Excel from data apps when you need to work with data outside the platform.
- Use the control sidebar in data apps to adjust parameters and refresh data without leaving the workspace.
